Closure due to relocation to the Cercle Naval in Brest
Passerelle is currently closed to the public.
In January 2026, Passerelle Contemporary Art Centre will temporarily leave its original premises on Rue Charles Berthelot. Its activities will not be affected in any way, but will be concentrated off-site for one year at the old Cercle Naval on Rue du Château in Brest and at the Manoir de Kerlaouen in Lesneven.
The City of Brest will undertake major works, mainly dedicated to maintaining safety conditions in the building on Rue Charles Berthelot, which it is making available to the Passerelle association. The renovation work will continue in 2027 with improvements to accessibility and visitor facilities. With an investment of nearly €700,000 by the City of Brest, this work requires the building to be vacated and all activities of the Brest contemporary art centre to be relocated.
This temporary move is an exciting opportunity for Passerelle to meet new audiences in an iconic location in Brest that is little known to the general public. Since 2021, the former Cercle Naval has been hosting artists in workshops, and since November 2025, it has been home to the Brest Métropole Tourist Office.
From 15 January 2026, the offices of the Passerelle team and the association Documents d'artistes Bretagne will be relocated to the third floor of the former Cercle Naval at 52 rue du Château in Brest. The return to the premises on rue Charles Berthelot will take place in 2027, once the work has been completed.
