Frédéric Teschner
Frederic Teschner’s graphic design takes roots in an permanent empirical exploration, in a question launched, a picture taken on the Iphone or a sketch in his Moleskine. He is a researcher, not one of those laboratory workers who studied and dissected a subject but a bulimic observer, always on the lookout for an encounter with a thinker, an artist, a work, the discovery of an architectural quirk, a crack in a wall, an unusual image… The world that surrounds him composes a landscape where to discover icons and experiences and whose crossing causes the ideas in cascade . In his recurring, if not daily, pilgrimages, he gleans forms, textures, symptoms and uses to compose his "material library". It is a sort of weird database as one can found in many artists’ hard drives. The items she conceals construct graphic scenarios as narrative and poetic strategies whose epilogue will be whether a poster, a book or an exhibition. His approach of conjugating icons is a matter of alchemy, an attempt to transform and transmute that goes beyond the simple manipulation and confrontation of pre-existing elements.
Frédéric Teschner was, until his death in 2016, Passerelle’s graphic designer. The tribute we give him this season is no retrospective but is a dive into his visual and graphic material.
